PETstock, the Australian family owned retailer with its roots in regional Victoria, evolved into a business well known for distributing pet nutrition nationwide. The company is rapidly growing and has recently announced the opening of their 150th store, a true milestone. To be able to manage the growth and meet the ever increasing demand of customers, the company began its supply chain evolution last year. The ultimate goal: increasing the service level towards its customers and reducing operational costs

Having their customers at the heart of their business, the retailer strives to go above and beyond to meet customer needs. PETstock began consolidating and centralising its supply chain network by setting up a National Distribution Center (NDC) and regional distribution centers. A development which enables PETstock to take advantage of scale, store and transportation savings. At the same time, optimising inventory levels to meet the increasing demand of customers in ever changing omni-channel retail environment is part of the transformation.

Warwick Procter, General Manager Supply Chain at PETstock: “Loyalty can only go so far if the customer service is poor. It is therefore integral to any omni-channel retailer, that they can deliver with speed and have certainty around their in-stock position.”

The new network setup enables PETstock to greatly reduce the number of deliveries to stores, the overall inventory holding within each store and improve the ability to meet store specific needs, including out of hours delivery.

Warwick Procter, General Manager Supply Chain at PETstock: “We needed a solution that provided functionality around order optimisation and detailed parameters that manage inventory on a site by site bases as required. Slimstock has had proven success at retailers in Europe. Their inventory optimisation software Slim4, provides superior functionality and will help us achieve the required service levels”

PETstock already became National Retailer of the Year 2018, as they go beyond and above to meet customer’s needs. The current redesign of the supply chain and process improvements will allow the company to keep meeting future customer requirements.
